A KwaZulu-Natal driver was arrested after he was clocked at 236kph in his VW Golf 6 on Sunday.
The 34-year-old was driving on the N2 near Mandeni when he set off a speed trap. According to reports, police officers had to chase him down. When he eventually stopped, he was found to be drunk.
"The 34 year-old male, who is currently being detained at Gingindlovu Police Station, is facing three charges of speeding, drinking and driving, as well as failing to stop. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow," Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Mxolisi Kaunda told News24.
Kaunda went on to praise the officers who chased him down and indicated that the department was working hard to curb lawlessness on the KZN roads.
"Early this year, we issued a clear directive to our law enforcement officers to clamp down on speeding, as well as drinking and driving," he continued.
"So far, I am pleased that our operations are yielding positive results. Anyone who breaks the law in this province will spend time in jail. Therefore, let us all abide by the rules of the road so that we can save lives."
