A pastor was attacked at a petrol station in Johannesburg for allegedly wearing an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) cap.
According to reports, Ron Rambebu was attacked at an Engen garage in Roodepoort.
The pastor said that he was about to leave the filling station when he was approached by a man who then started punching him in the face.
"I thought I was getting hijacked, so I tried closing the window," he told News24.
Rambebu said that his window did not close as he has a sensor which does not allow the window to be closed if there is a hand through it.
The pastor managed to drive away from the man but then stopped to fight back. He said as he was driving away, the men continued to laugh and point at him.
"I spotted a wheel spanner. As I was running towards them to fight back, they drove off," he said.
Rambebu said that after trying to get CCTV footage, petrol attendants told him the men were commenting on him wearing an EFF cap and that they called him the "K-word".
"They told me that those people said something about my EFF cap that I was wearing and that they were calling me the k-word. I didn't respond, because I didn't hear them."
Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele confirmed that a case of assault is currently under investigation.
No arrests have yet been made.
