Police investigate after man shot in Newtown

A 47-year-old man has been shot and killed in Newtown, Johannesburg on Tuesday. 

The shooting incident occurred in Quinn Street.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that paramedics found the man lying on the pavement.

"Assessments showed that the man had sustained several gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead."

The police's Captain Mavela Masondo said that the deceased was approached by armed men who shot him several times.

"It is alleged that the deceased was approached by suspects who shot him several times. He was declared dead at the scene."

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.
