When an electrician was called out after a fire broke out at a transformer in Heidelberg, Gauteng, he was greeted with a surprise.

The electrician immediately called the fire department to extinguish the fire, after which he found a man lying unconscious in the veld with burnt clothes. After the police arrived, a shot investigation revealed that the man had been trying to steal cables.

“After the fire was extinguished, a young man was seen lying unconscious with his clothes burnt,” confirmed Heidelberg station commander Col manda Viljoen on TimesLive on Tuesday.

“Paramedics were called to attend to the burnt and unconscious young man who was taken to Heidelberg hospital for further medical treatment as he sustained serious burns.”

Viljoen added that the unidentified man will be arrested after he has recovered from his injuries.
