Man gets life for raping disabled woman

A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to life behind bars for the rape of a 29-year-old woman in Petrusville, Northern Cape. 

Andile Jantjies was sentenced in the De Aar Regional Court on Tuesday.

On May 15, 2015, a disabled female was pushed home in her wheel-chair from a tavern by the male accused, who is known to her.

“Jantjies took the victim to his house in Petrusville, under false intentions of fetching something he needed. He forcefully lifted the victim out of her wheel-chair, assaulted and raped her,”  a police report read.

The victim reported the incident to the police and the suspect was arrested the following day.

Jantjies was linked after forensic investigations and sentenced for the criminal offence.
