Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a spate of robberies which took place around the Cambridge railway station in East London.

Cambridge SAPS police launched an operation in the early hours of Wednesday morning following complaints of people being robbed at knifepoint.

While still busy on this operation, a robbery complaint was received and police immediately reacted.

The suspect was positively identified by the complainant on the scene.

"He was found in possession of two cellphones and he led the police to where other stolen items were kept in a shack at Cambridge location. On searching the shack, police recovered more cellphones, tablet, bank cards, knives, train tickets and ID cards,"  a police statement read.

The suspect will appear before the East London magistrate's court on Friday, facing charges of robbery.
