Private investigator released after stealing Marc Batchelor’s cellphone

An investigator who allegedly stole murdered former soccer star, Marc Batchelor’s cellphone has been released.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker was shot several times outside his home in northern Johannesburg last week. The unidentified suspects reportedly fled on motorcycles.

According to Times Live, the well-known Johannesburg private investigator and debt collector was arrested for allegedly taking Batchelor’s cellphones just moments after he was gunned down.

Information was then wiped from the device.

Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said that the matter was not put on court roll as more investigations still need to be done.

The police’s Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said that because the matter was not put on court roll, the suspect was released.

Despite the suspect being released, investigations continue.
