The North Gauteng High Court has ruled that President Cyril Ramaphosa complied with Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's remedial action.
In May, Mkhwebane originally found that Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan had acted unlawfully when he signed off on former deputy SARS commissioner Ivan Pillay’s early retirement. She stated that Ramaphosa should take action against Gordhan and he did so by installing a judicial review.

Judge Letty Molopa-Sethosa revealed on Thursday that Ramaphosa did indeed take action against Gordhan within reason and found it “mind-boggling” that Mkhwebane did not find this adequate.
The EFF joined Mkwebane in her plea to have Ramaphosa act immediately and will thus share the legal cost with the Public Protector after this failed bid.
This marks the latest in a growing list of court battled lost by Mkwebane.
