Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse has discovered traces of the deadly bacteria E. coli in samples collected from Hammanskraal near Pretoria.
News24 reports that the advocacy group reported the findings the City of Tshwane earlier this week.
"Our follow up sample found traces of E. coli and nitrates in the drinking water on the date the sample was taken which indicates faecal contaminants in the drinking water supply," said OUTA operations executive Julius Kleynhans.
"Drinking the water can result in stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting which is an acute health risk.
"The tested water sample was found not fit for use as potable water and for domestic use."
The findings come off the back of the South African Human Rights Commission also raising concerns of the quality of the drinking water in Hammanskraal.
