South African billionaire Johann Rupert has been robbed of R300m worth of jewelry in Johannesburg.
The Sunday Times reports that a warehouse in Johannesburg was stormed by armed suspects on Friday night. The suspects held up the security guards at gunpoint and broke into the warehouse, which is owned by RLG Africa, a subsidiary of Rupert's company luxury goods Richemont.
Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo revealed that the thieves reportedly got away with diamond necklaces, watches and earrings - which were intended to be sold in South Africa - to the value of an estimated R300m.
Masondo added that a case of business robbery has been opened and police are searching for suspects.
According to Forbres, the business mogul has a net worth of R94 billion.
