Suspects shoot elderly man in head and set his vehicle alight

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 67-year-old man in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal. 

On August 5, 2019, a 67-year-old Mqondeni Zondi was travelling on the D77 Ntembisweni Road in Greytown when he was stopped by three armed suspects travelling in a vehicle.

The suspects dragged him out of his vehicle and shot him in the head.

The suspects then set his belongings and his bakkie alight.

"His lifeless body was found by one of the farmers in Ntembisweni. Charges of murder and malicious damage to property were opened at Greytown SAPS for further investigation," a police report stated. 

Following a swift investigation by Greytown Detectives, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested at Ntembisweni.

Following further investigations yesterday, a 28-year-old suspect was also arrested at Makhabeleni in Kranskop for murder.

The remaining suspect is still being sought by police.

The suspects are due to appear in the Greytown Magistrate’s court on Monday.
