A Russian plane was forced to make an emergency landing after hitting a flock of birds on Thursday.
The Ural Airline Airbus 321 flight had 233 passengers and crew on board when it took off from Zhukovsky International Airport outside Moscow. However, it soon found itself in trouble after hitting a flock of gulls immediately after takeoff.
"Five seconds later, the lights on the right side of the plane started flashing and there was a smell of burning," an unnamed passenger told Russian state television.
"Then we landed and everyone ran away."
The pilot managed to safely land the plane with the engines off and the landing gear retracted in a corn field about one kilometre from the airport. All passengers were safely evacuated from the stricken plane, with some taken to hospital with minor injuries.
