Former North West finance MEC Wendy Nelson has been arrested on fraud charges due to an irregular appointment of a senior official in the province.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso confirmed the arrest to City Press.
Rikhotso explained to the publication that Nelson was arrested “following investigations into allegations pertaining to an irregular appointment of a senior official in the Health Department during 2014”.
Nelson was appointed by former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, as acting premier when he had to take a leave of absence as premier, last May due to violent protests in the North West.
She has been released on a bail of R20 000 and is expected to appear in court again on September 6.
