The girl who was raped in the bathroom of a restaurant in Pretoria is expected to testify against Nicholas Ninow.

Ninow is accused of raping the girl in the bathroom at a Dros restaurant in Silverton, Pretoria, on September 22, 2018.

Ninow appeared in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday and pleaded guilty to rape, possession of drugs and defeating the ends of justice. He pleaded not guilty to assaulting Dross staff members after they caught him in the cubicle.

Kidnapping charges against the accused have been withdrawn by the state.

The victim, who is now eight-years-old, is expected to give her version of events in the trial of the self-confessed rapist.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the victim taking the witness stand is not for her to relive the traumatic event.

The NPA responded to concerns from the public after it was reported that the victim will be taking the stand.

"Family members and the entire society can rest assured that the purpose of calling for her testimony is not to place the complainant in a position where she has to relive the traumatic event," said NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

The state believes that there are inconsistencies in Ninow's account of the events.

The purpose of the victim taking the stand is to place evidence before the court to counter-argue Ninow's version of events.

The trial continues on Wednesday.
