On Thursday, a bench warrant was issued for singer R. Kelly in Hennepin County District Court in Minnesota for failing to appear in court.

Kelly is currently being held in the Federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago on federal sex crime charges.

The award-winning singer is facing two counts of engaging in prostitution with a person under 18 in Minnesota.

Senior Hennepin County Attorney Judith Cole confirmed to CNN that no attorney had approached her office or filed a certificate of representation for Kelly.

Taking to Twitter, Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg disputed that his client failed to appear in Minnesota.

"I was not served with any notice of court proceedings, nor was he. I did not resist his appearance, nor did he."

Greenberg added that "he is in custody. It is the prosecutor who must obtain a court order for #RKelly to appear, and it is the prosecutor who must go get him if, as here, he is in custody elsewhere. They do not just give him a travel pass from federal custody."

The arrest warrant means that the Ignition hitmaker must show up in court.

The disgraced musician also faces separate charges in Illinois and New York.
