Police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect for the alleged shooting of six-year-old, Jay-Linn Jantjies in Port Elizabeth.
According to reports, the 6-year-old child was on the pavement in front of her house in Kobus Road when shots were fired, hitting her in her head on September 23.
"Intensive investigation was conducted in the area and the suspect was sought but was evading arrest," a police statement read.
SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team and detective members spotted him in Deverill Road and a chase ensued, resulting in his apprehension in Chamois Street on October 3.
"He was detained on a charge of attempted murder as well as an unrelated case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and pointing of a firearm."
Unfortunately, Jantjies passed away in hospital on October 4.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate’s court for murder soon.
