Gauteng residents are hoping for rainfall after water levels in the Vaal Dam dropped to 53.1%.

"Vaal dam sitting at 53.1% AND no water transfers to the Vaal dam system will be possible til 30 Nov due to maintenance," the City of Johannesburg wrote on Twitter.

The City said that due to maintenance, no water transfers will be possible until November 30.

Residents were asked to take certain steps in trying to reduce the amount of water they use on a daily basis.

The Department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said that the "department has not gazetted any restrictions on the system but the City of Johannesburg has instituted localised restrictions for the areas under their jurisdiction, which are on level 1.”
